Asian markets on a high ahead of weekends

Strong cues from overnight US markets keeps investors bullish, Eurozone bank's stress test results awaited

Market scales 2-1/2-year high on strong Q1 results, FII buying

Stocks scaled 29-month highs, helped by sustained foreign fund buying, strong macroeconomic scenario backed by revival in monsoon and decent first quarterly earnings so far. The market gained in 3 out of five trading sessions in the week ended Friday, 23 July 2010.

Stress test results of European banks, RBI's rate hike to set the tone

The results of the stress test of European banks due late on Friday, 23 July 2010, will set the tone for global equity markets early next week. Closer home, investors will watch for any surprises in central bank's monetary policy review on Tuesday, 27 July 2010. The market has already discounted a 25 basis points rate hike in key short term rates by the Reserve Bank of India.

BSE Mid-Cap, Small-Cap indices edge lower

Key benchmark indices ended just a tad higher, as an initial rally which took the market to 29-month high triggered profit taking. The market breadth weakened, reversing from a strong breadth witnessed earlier in the day. European and Asian stocks and US index futures edged higher ahead of the release of the results of the stress test conducted on European banks. The BSE 30-share Sensex rose 17.83 points or 0.10%, off 106.58 points from the day's high and up 37.05 points from the day's low.
