MANAGEMENT DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS:
Economic Backdrop and Banking Environment:
The Indian economy is back on track and poised to grow by 7.2% in 2009-10,
higher than 6.7% in the previous year. The strong industrial recovery and
continuing momentum in services sector is the key underlying strength
behind the higher growth. On the agriculture front, decline in farm output
is expected to be contained at around -0.2%, against growth of 1.6% in
2008-09, due to good rabi harvest, partially offsetting the kharif losses
suffered because of the worst South-West Monsoon since 1972.

Market ekes out small gains
The key benchmark indices eked out small gains in a choppy trading session as data showing a surge in car sales in May 2010 triggered bargain hunting after a two-day slide. Revival of the monsoon rains supported the domestic bourses. European stocks and US index futures which had dropped before the Indian market closed, rose later. Asian stocks were mixed. The BSE 30-share Sensex advanced 40.79 points or 0.25%, off close to 160 points from the day's high and up close to 65 points from the day's low.

In stock specific action, Hindalco Industries reportedly plans to borrow about Rs 14000 crore in the next couple of years to build two new plants that will treble its aluminium making capacity as increased production of cars and aircraft, fuel demand for the white metal.

Crude back with little gains
Prices rose due to the weak dollar
Crude oil prices ended modestly higher on Tuesday, 08 June 2010 at Nymex. Prices rose due to the weak dollar.
On Tuesday, crude-oil futures for light sweet crude for July delivery closed at $71.99/barrel (higher by $0.55 or 0.8%). Last week, prices shed 3.3%. However, the contract seemed to stabilize after last week's sharp decline in the wake of a lackluster U.S. jobs report and renewed European debt concerns.
For the month of May, crude shed 14%. It was the biggest monthly drop for crude since December 2008. For the month of April, crude rose 2.8%. For the first quarter of this year, crude rose by 5.5%. Year to date, crude is higher by 2.5%.

Kindly Adjust
The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings. - Okakura Kakuzo
The market seems to be in no mood to adjust to investor’s expectations. Just when some semblance seems to have been restored on Tuesday, some dumping of stocks, reportedly ‘basket selling’ took the sheen of the indices and send them tumbling.
Expect a flat start and subdued action for the first half of the day. No domestic trigger seems strong enough to guide the market for now. As we remain at the mercy of the global indices, keep a close eye on your portfolio rather than swaying to the overall beat.
Cautious start likely on Euro woes

Bullion metal prices shot up on Tuesday, 08 June 2010 at Comex. Concerns regarding global economic health pushed prices higher. US stocks slipped considerably earlier during the day thereby pushing bullion metals higher as they once again showed their resilience to trying times as they are often viewed as better investment alternates.
