The US continuing claims for the week ended September 25, 2010 stood at 4,462,000 as compared to 4,510,000 seen in the previous week.

The US initial claims for the week ended October 2, 2010 stood at 445,000 as compared to 456,000 seen in the previous week.

Indian indices

The tussle between the bulls and the bears was witnessed in the four sessions of this week, with one day up and other day down. The Sensex and the Nifty have declined by 1.23% and 1.49% respectively in this week till now.

Today, the domestic markets are likely to begin the session on a flat note following the mixed global indices. The investors across the globe remained cautious ahead of the key US jobs data.

There are new listings on the bourses today, Orient Green Power Company and Ramky Infrastructure, with an issue price of Rs47 and Rs450 per share respectively.

Daily trend of FII/MF investment in equities

The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have bought Indian shares worth a net of Rs2,285.40 crore on October 07, 2010, more than Rs970.30 crore on October 06, 2010. The domestic investors have sold the Indian stocks worth a net of Rs423.50 crore on October 06, 2010.

Global signals

The European share prices ended flat on Thursday (October 07, 2010), with a sharp decline in mining stocks on the back of weaker metals prices offset by stronger automakers, led by a surge in Renault after it sold a large part of its stake in truckmaker Volvo.

The US markets ended mixed after a volatile session ahead of the monthly jobs data, which will be released today. The Dow rose to as high as 10998, almost hitting the psychologically important 11000 level in early trade but eventually closed flat.

The Asian markets were trading mixed, as investors remained cautious ahead of a key US jobs data. SGX Nifty was trading nine points higher, pointing towards a flat start on the Dalal Street.

Commodity cues

Crude oil fell for a second day after US equities declined and the dollar strengthened against the euro as applications for US unemployment benefits unexpectedly decreased, as the crude oil futures for November delivery declined by $1.87, to settle at $81.67 a barrel.
