Nifty closes above 5,450; SBI, DLF up
Indian markets continued to gain for the second day on Friday. The Sensex ended with moderate gains as realty, consumer durable and banking stocks rallied today. After opening flat with positive bias, the index traded in the range and further extended gains on heavy buying interest seen across board, touching a high of 18,260.39. Later, in the second half, it shed some gains to finally close in the green.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 93.13 points or 0.52% at 18,167.03 with 20 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 35.65 points or 0.66% at 5,452.10 with 33 components registering rise.
Sensex Movers
State Bank Of India contributed rise of 22.58 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (21.34 points), I C I C I Bank (16.18 points), Reliance Industries (16.15 points) and Tata Steel (5.9 points).
However, Sterlite Industries (India) contributed fall of 14.55 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Communications (4.71 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.86 points), Tata Motors (2.58 points) and Reliance Infrastructure (2.15 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (2.35%), D L F (2.12%), I T C (1.96%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.86%), Tata Steel (1.39%), and Jaiprakash Associates (1.39%).
On the other hand, Sterlite Industries (India) (4.26%), Reliance Communications (2.94%), Reliance Energy (1.03%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.79%), Tata Motors (0.68%), and Hindalco Industries (0.48%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.98% and 0.67% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Ackruti City (3.42%), Core Projects and Technologies (2.65%), Allahabad Bank (1.49%), Alfa-Laval (India) (0.64%) and Alstom Projects India (0.21%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A B G Infralogistics (2.08%), Abhishek Industries (1.92%), Action Construction Equipment (1.61%), Provogue (India) (1.32%) and A B G Shipyard (0.8%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 3,675.30, up by 82.96 points or by 2.31%. The major gainers were D B Realty (9.99%), Anant Raj Industries (4%), Indiabulls Real Estate (3.85%), Ackruti City (3.42%) and D L F (2.12%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 5,705.88, up by 103.98 points or by 1.86%. The major gainers were Titan Industries (4.67%), Videocon Industries (0.6%), Bajaj Electricals (0.58%) and V I P Industries (0.52%).
The Bankex index was at 12,196.08, up by 168.25 points or by 1.40%. The major gainers were Canara Bank(2.17%), Federal Bank (2.15%), Bank Of Baroda (0.77%), H D F C Bank (0.58%) and Bank Of India (0.06%).
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 15,338.02, down by 22.74 points or by 0.15%. The major losers were Sterlite Industries (India) (4.26%), Hindalco Industries (0.48%), NMDC (0.31%), Jindal Saw (0.1%) and Steel Authority Of India (0.05%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 1,544 advances against 1,465 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Patni Computer Systems topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 3,493.65 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 3,090.43 million), Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company (Rs. 2,171.65 million) and Raymond (Rs. 1,637.48 million).
The volume chart was led by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision with trades of over 20.06 million shares. It was followed by FCS Software Solutions (18.98 million), Spicejet (17.89 million) and I F C I (7.52 million).
