Asian stocks open on a positive not

Asian stocks opened on a positive note as mining shares advanced. Rio Tinto Group rose more than 1% after agreeing to sell a stake in a cable division.

Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 rose 11.64 points, or 0.11%, to trade at 10,213.70.

Hong Kong`s Hang Seng index declined 229.22 points, or 1.08%, to trade at 20,932.20.

China`s Shanghai Composite decreased 7.28 points, or 0.24% to trade at 3,019.46.

Taiwan`s Taiex index gained 21.05 points, or 0.29%, to trade at 7,278.

South Korea`s Kospi index climbed 10.24 points, or 0.63% to trade at 1,645.15.

Singapore`s Straits Times advanced 7.79 points, or 0.30%, to trade at 2,647.53. (8.08 a.m., IST)
