Friday's losses take US stocks lower for the week

Fourth quarter GDP reading comes below expectations

US stocks ended with modest losses for the week that ended on Friday, 28 January 2011. Stocks would have eked out some gains for the week but for the triple digit losses that it incurred on the last trading day of the week. Earning reports dominated the week and drove stocks higher during the course of the week. But a couple of economic reports, mainly in the later part of the week took stocks lower on Friday. Stocks slipped on the final day of trading as fourth quarter GDP reading failed to meet expectations.
